The 2022-23 PSL season hasn’t even reached the halfway mark but there are already five coaches who either resigned or were axed.

At least 10 of the 16 PSL teams made coaching changes prior to the start of of the current campaign but only 11 have stuck with their preferred coaches.

THE FIVE PSL COACHES WHO ‘LEFT’ THEIR JOBS

ROMAIN FOLZ – MARUMO GALLANTS

Folz was the first PSL coach to lose his job after citing interference from Marumo Gallants management who wanted him to do things their way.

The 32-year-old mentor had been in charge of six games, and was yet to register a win with Marumo Gallants prior to his resignation.

DAINE KLATE – CHIPPA UNITED

Klate took over from Kurt Lentjies at the start of the season in what was his first coaching job in the South African topflight.

However, he was sacked after Chippa United’s narrow loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, and this despite his team’s impressive display on the night.

DAN MALESELA – ROYAL AM

Malesela had joined Royal AM as a co-coach after Khabo Zondo was initially appointed as head coach, and the pair shared the position with Abram Nteo.

However, Malesela quit the job after a few games, claiming that the ‘co-coaching thing wasn’t working for me as I want to grow as a coach’.

DYLAN KERR – SWALLOWS FC

Kerr helped Swallows avoid relegation last season via the playoffs but the team’s slow start to the current term saw him lose his job.

Swallows’ 4-0 loss to Golden Arrows left them in 16th place on the PSL log, and that was enough for the management to pull the trigger on him.

BRANDON TRUTER – AMAZULU

On Thursday, Truter became the fifth coach to lose his job following AmaZulu’s 1-0 loss to provincial rivals Richards Bay FC.

Truter was initially thought to have been sacked but his camp insists that he resigned due to personal reasons that needed his attention.
