‘Alphabet club’: Steve Hofmeyr vs LGBTQI+ community…AGAIN
Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has come out in full force against the LGBTQI+ community saying trans people are 'the most problematic'.
In April, Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr came under fire after slamming Disney’s efforts to make their content more LGBTQI+ inclusive. After the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) took him on in court, Hofmeyr has taken to Facebook again, this time, slamming transgender people.
In a lengthy Facebook post and video posted on Monday 12 September, Hofmeyr said trans people “insisted on laws for their special pronouns”. The 58-year-old also said that trans people were “the most problematic part” of the LGBTQI+ community.

STEVE HOFMEYR ‘ADDRESSES’ TRANSGENDER PEOPLE
Taking to Facebook on 12 September, Steve Hofmeyr addressed several topics including the British monarchy and the LGBTQI+ community. The singer addressed Afrikaans singer Angie oeh who called out queerphobic men and toxic masculinity.
“I’m not insecure. Not about my sexuality. I am not sure about a five-year-old girl though. Mine,” wrote Hofmeyr.
“I’m unsure if she has the emotional intelligence – which the LGBTQ+ now says she has – receiving fussy a*sholes at her kindergarten, sharing locker rooms with biological boys and smearing herself with ‘puberty blockers’ and gender superior asies before she is 16. These are the things that your alphabet club demands for minors now.”
‘DESTROYING WOMEN’S RIGHTS’
In his post, Steve Hofmeyr also claimed that transgender people were “destroying women’s rights”. The singer also said the LGBTQI+ community “refuses to distinguish between men and women”.
“I find myself considering my objections to a bunch of people without children about how to protect my child from Disney+’s sexualization of our toddlers. And this without parents’ permission.”
Concluding his post, Hofmeyr said he invites all people to his concerts.

SAHRC VS STEVE HOFMEYR
Following his comments about Disney LGBTQI+, the Eastern Cape SAHRC sent Steve Hofmeyr a letter demanding R500 000 be paid to an organisation that uplifts the LGBTQI+ community. He was also required to apologise to South Africans.
“Serious harassment towards the LGBTQI+ community, therefore, needs to be addressed summarily. The Commission underscores the importance of promoting and protecting the rights of LGBTQI+ and of gender non-conforming persons,” said Sibonelo Ncanana Trower, the Human Rights Coordinator at OUT as per MambaOnline.
