ANC salaries: Employees plan to picket outside Luthuli House

Employees from the African National Congress (ANC) who still have not been paid said they will picket outside Luthuli House on Monday, October.

Employees are demanding the salaries owed to them

The employees want their outstanding salaries to be paid and vowed to implement a national shutdown if they don’t get their money. Last month, a number of ANC employees picketed outside Luthuli House in Johannesburg over the same issue.

Their salaries have still not been paid, reports EWN.

The frustrated employees are hoping that this picket will yield better results than the last. It has been three months since some employees received their salaries. Many are tired of working without receiving their salaries.

Some staff members say it’s unfair that the members of the National Executive Committee were paid

Some of the employees say it’s unfair for them to be drowning in debt after not receiving their pay while members of the National Executive Committee were paid. The workers, who an ANC staff representative committee is leading, will soon have talks with management at Luthuli House to find a solution.

The picket comes just two months before the ANC’s National Elective Conference. Employees noted that they may disrupt the conference.

ANC staff members not paid for months plan to disrupt conference

Last month, it was reported that staff members of the African National Congress (ANC) claim they have not received their pay for two to three months. These picketing workers have threatened to shut down the ruling party’s offices and operations for the week.

The ANC workers say the party has failed to pay a number of salaries, even though they previously committed to do so. On Monday, 19 September, a number of ANC staff members participated in a national shutdown across the country.

A number of these staff members picketed outside Luthuli House headquarters. Many were seen holding placards. SABC News reports that there were protests earlier this year and even last year over the same salary issue. Read the full story here.
