BCCI’s Rajeev Shukla Spotted at Champions Trophy Semi-Final

Attending the continuous second semi-final of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy starting here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday were vice-secretary Rajeev Shukla of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) together with other boards’ members.

Six delegates from five separate cricket boards will be attending the knockout event between South Africa and New Zealand, claims the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“The following are the other board representatives who will attend Wednesday’s semifinal in Lahore; Rajiv Shukla (BCCI), Roger Twose (NZC), Farooq Ahmed (BCB), Pholetsi Isaac Moseki, Dr. Mohammed Moosajee (both CSA) and Mr Mahinda Vallipuram (Malaysia),” the PCB said in a statement.

Arriving in Pakistan allegedly on a chartered airplane in the early hours of Wednesday, Shukla was nominated by the BCCI to cross the border in response to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s appeal to all cricket board officials to view the semi-final at the newly rebuilt Gaddafi Stadium here.

Given the BCCI, which only months before the eight-team competition started, had refused to send its national men’s team to Pakistan citing government policies, Shukla’s visit to Pakistan has great significance.

The PCB responded angrily at the BCCI’s rejection, leading to a protracted standoff between the two cricketing authorities.

The argument finally came to a head when PCB suggested a “Fusion Formula,” according to, should India or Pakistan be hosting an event for the next three years, both teams will play their matches at a neutral site.
