CapeNature will be implementing a major change at five flagship nature reserves from February 2026. Here's where...
In a bid to modernise operations and enhance visitor experience, CapeNature is phasing out cash payments at some of its most popular reserves.
The shift aims to make transactions faster, safer, and more eco-friendly, aligning with the organisation’s broader digital transformation strategy.
Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead as the new system takes effect early next year.
Which CapeNature reserves?
From 2 February 2026, CapeNature will introduce a fully cashless payment system at five flagship nature reserves:
- Robberg and Keurbooms (Plettenberg Bay)
- Stony Point (Betty’s Bay)
- Bird Island (Lambert’s Bay)
- Walker Bay (Hermanus)
Payments will be accepted via debit and credit cards, mobile payment platforms, and pre-bookings through CapeNature’s website or contact centre.
“Going cashless enables us to offer a more secure and efficient experience for our visitors. We’ve taken great care to prepare our teams and ensure our visitors have multiple payment options available for their convenience.” Ashley Naidoo, CEO of CapeNature, said.
“As with any change, we understand and expect that there may be some implementation issues during the transition. Our visitors are always welcome and we ask that, if required, you offer our transition a little patience and understanding,” he added.
CapeNature said the move is part of its ongoing efforts to improve sustainability and align with global best practices in nature reserve management.
