South Africa could become hosts of the 2025 African Cup of Nations after Giuneapulled out on Friday.
“The President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe had a meeting today with the Guinea Transition President, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya to discuss the withdrawal by CAF of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) Guinea 2025, due to the infrastructure and facilities in Guinea not being ready to host a world class AFCON competition. He was accompanied by CAF General Secretary, Mr Véron Mosengo-Omba.” CAF confirmed on iDiskiTimes.

SA are very strong candidate for the 2025 edition having hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Meaning, they have world-class facilities and experience hosting an even bigger tournament with tremendous success. With world-class stadiums such as FNB Stadium, Cape Town Stadium, Moses Mabhida, Mbombela and many more.

Now, it is down to the up-and-coming bidding process.
We also hosted the 2013 edition, losing to Mali in the quarter-finals on penalties. Therefore, SA has a point to prove and we are long overdue success in Africa. Hosting the competition will give us the biggest chance of achieving this since 1996 when we famously won AFCON.
