Cape Town areas to experience 9-hour water shutdown on Tuesday

Planned maintenance in parts of Cape Town will result in water supply interruptions.

The maintenance work will be conducted from Tuesday, 18 November.

CAPE TOWN TO IMPLEMENT NINE-HOUR WATER OUTAGE

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Hanover Park, Newfields, Pinati Estate, Sand Industria, Philippi, Sheffield Park (Old Ottery Road), Highlands Estate Philippi, and Philippi Farms (Springfield Road) – The Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to these areas and possibly the immediate surrounds from 9:00 until 18:00 on both Tuesday, 18 November, and  Wednesday, 19 November. This will enable the operations teams to switch over from the existing 450 mm diameter water supply main to the newly installed 450 mm diameter water supply main in these areas.

Table View, West Beach, Parklands, Flamingo Vlei, Blouberg Rise, Bloubergrant, Sunridge, and West Riding – The Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to these areas from 10:00 until 18:00 on Wednesday, 19 November. This test shut-off aims to determine the impact of the actual shut-off from 10:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 20 November, the City of Cape Town said.

Witsand – Atlantis – Likewise, the Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Witsand in Atlantis on Thursday, 20 November, from 9:00 until 18:00. This planned shutdown will allow the relevant teams to carry out essential maintenance and cleaning of the water supply infrastructure in the area.

ZERO-PRESSURE TESTS

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:

  • Tuesday, 18 November, from 9:00 until 17:00: Danarand, Kuils River and Voëlvlei.
  • Wednesday, 19 November, from 10:00 until 16:00: Kraaifontein, Peerless Park and Eikendal.
