Cape Town confirms nine-hour water cuts in these areas

The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will conduct planned maintenance resulting in a nine-hour water outage in parts of the municipality.

The maintenance work is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 19 August.

CAPE TOWN SCHEDULES NINE-HOUR WATER OUTAGE

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Hanover Park, Athlone, Rylands, Newfields, Pinati Estate, Belthorn Estate, Penlyn Estate, and Belgravia – An appointed contractor is conducting low-pressure investigations to improve the pressure in these areas. The project commenced on 9 June and is expected to run for approximately five months.

On Tuesday, 19 August, the contractor will be tracing the water main supplying Hanover Park, Newfield, and Pinati Estate. This process will involve opening and closing of valves on the water supply network to validate its status and will result in intermittent flow disruptions.

Part of Hanover Park and Philippi – Likewise, City of Cape Town maintenance teams will be doing a temporary shut-off of the water main in Springfield Road, Philippi, from 9:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 19 August. The affected streets are Deutz Street, Becker Street, and Govan Mbeki Drive, between Heinz Road and Jan Smuts Drive, including Springfield Road and Mahillion Road, and possibly the immediate surrounds.

Uitsig and Eureka Estate – Elsies River – Lastly, the water supply to these areas will be shut off temporarily from 9:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 21 August, to enable the maintenance team to safely make a new connection to the water supply main to these areas.

ZERO-PRESSURE TESTS ARE ONGOING

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:

  • Monday, 18 August, from 10:00 until 13:00: Parow Central.
  • Wednesday, 20 August, from 10:00 until 16:00: Belmont Park, Eikendal, Kleinbegin and Summerville.
