London, 6 September 2022 – Can You Feel The Love Tonight for leading online classic and specialist vehicle auction site Car & Classic’s Bentley Continental R?
No Tiny Dancer, the majestic 1992 Bentley would already guarantee quite the presence on the road, with its 6.75 litre V8 engine, unblemished looks and that iconic badge, but the one being auctioned by Car & Classic is even more special: bought new by Sir Elton John, it is the ultimate environment to listen to Your Song, with its completely bespoke audio system.
“This Continental R encapsulates the two essential elements in Sir Elton’s life,” says Car & Classic Head of Editorial Chris Pollitt. “The music legend is well known for his love of interesting cars and it is befitting of such a vehicle and original owner that music would not come through any ordinary audio system: the trio of amplifiers behind a panel in the boot, driving the 14-speaker MB Quart install, won’t let it be All Quiet On The Western Front.”
Sporting vast swathes of leather, padded upholstery and burr walnut trims, new tyres and factory alloys, the car is in excellent condition; it was bought by the current owner from Elton John’s management company William A Bong Limited in 1996.
An iconic car for a true legend, the Continental R is the latest of a number of celebrity-owned vehicles, auctioned by Car & Classic. From Elvis Presley’s Cadillac (sold earlier this year) to the ex-McRae family-owned Subaru Impreza, former Leeds United footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s BMW Z3 M Roadster, and ex-David Beckham’s Mercedes 500 currently on offer, Car & Classic is often the platform of choice for cars with an interesting and rich background.
