Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning skipper acknowledged the strain of playing at home for the defending champions and the high expectations from fans.

There’ll be pressure. He added Pakistan, the incumbent champions, would have great expectations at home, but people will support them.

He also praised Afghanistan, a potential tournament contender.

“Every team can win in a packed field. Australia and India have formidable teams, as is Afghanistan. Their spin options are great, and you’ll need them under these situations”.

Afghan spinners could make them a tough semi-final opponent, according to Sarfaraz.

The 37-year-old, who helped Pakistan win the 2017 Champions Trophy, pondered on the team’s improvement and potential.

Despite having only three players from the 2017 winning squad, he believes Pakistan can win again.

Pakistan has a quality team with a decent chance of defending the title. He stated some of the greatest boys from 2017 are still there, including Babar Azam. He’s a maturer, more dominant Babar than the one from 2017. His and Fakhar Zaman’s batting will be crucial for Pakistan “said.

The former captain praised Pakistan’s bowling attack, calling Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf world-class. Both bowlers are in great form and will be essential to Pakistan’s tournament victory. The exciting Pakistan-India match will be one of the most anticipated in the tournament.

Sarfaraz acknowledged the expectation and excitement surrounding the match but advised staying calm and playing like any other match. Sarfaraz remembered how Pakistan’s thinking changed after losing 124 runs in his debut match against India in 2017.
