Scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday revealed the playing XI for their ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign opening against Australia. From the one shown in the third ODI against India earlier this month, the 2019 World Cup champions changed three times.
Jamie Smith, last an ODI in September 2023, will wear the gloves on his comeback to the team. Smith will bat third, following Phil Salt and Ben Duckett in the top order.
Their middle order consists of seasoned Joe Root, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, skipper Jos Buttler. Returning to the lineup also is right-arm pacer Jofra Archer, who will be joined by fellow seamers Mark Wood and Brydon Carse.
The England stayed with seasoned Adil Rashid in the spin assault; he will be assisted by part-timers Livingstone and Root. England will play Afghanistan on February 26 following their campaign opener against Australia, then fly to Karachi where they will lock horns with South Africa on March 1.

Jos Buttler (c), Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith (WK), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.

February 22: Australia vs England, Lahore
February 26: Afghanistan vs England, Lahore
March 01: South Africa vs England, Karachi
