Nahayo represented Chiefs during 2008 and 2011 before moving to Europe with Belgian side Gent where he was a key player. Nahayo is widely regarded as one of Burundian football’s finest exports. He is a role model for many aspiring footballers in the country, and Bimenyimana is one of them.

Bimenyimana gushes over the allure of Kaizer Chiefs

“Everywhere I have played, in Europe or Africa, I have been at the top club in that country but I feel that here in South Africa people love football more. They live it. It’s something special for them,” he told the official Kaizer Chiefs website.

“I knew of Kaizer Chiefs before. It was my dream to play here because you had Valery Nahayo, the defender, who was captain of our national team so when, at training, I saw videos of him at Chiefs I said I want to go play in those full stadiums.”

Bimenyimana made his debut from the bench in a 0-0 draw with AmaZulu last week and will be keen to break into the starting XI under coach Zwane.

Chiefs play Marumo Gallants at 15:00 tomorrow.
