Two more charges added

According to the SABC, Matonhodze appeared alongside Mugabe as the State added two more charges to the case.

The pair were initially charged with attempted murder following the alleged shooting of their gardener at a Hyde Park residence last week.

State Prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri confirmed before the court that the accused now face three charges: attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice and possession of a firearm.

The additional counts relate to the firearm allegedly used in the shooting, which has not been recovered.

The victim remains in critical condition and is under police guard.

Bail application postponed to March

Proceedings were briefly delayed after the accused were mistakenly taken to the Randburg Magistrate’s Court instead of Alexandra.

They were later brought before the correct court, where the matter proceeded.

The bail application has been postponed to Tuesday, 3 March.

Both Mugabe and Matonhodze remain in custody.
