Confirmed: Dricus du Plessis’ next opponent, fight date

There has understandably been great anticipation around who Dricus du Plessis will face next in what will be his third fight in defence of his UFC middleweight title.

It’s now been confirmed that Du Plessis will indeed front up against highly-regarded Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 on 16 August in Chicago, USA.

This headline event of the action-packed fight night was announced during an Instagram Live stream this week.

Dricus du Plessis gets the fight he wants

Although there have been plenty of rumours around whether Du Plessis and Chimaev would go head to head, the South African star has always maintained his position.

“I am the champion. I know when I fight you as a contender, just show up when we tell you to,” he posted in a recent social media post.

After first famously claiming the middleweight belt against Sean Strickland, Du Plessis then backed that up with an emphatic victory over Israel Adesanya.

The 31-year-old then once again overcame Strickland in the ‘rematch’ in February, and he now heads towards his third title defence against the unbeaten Chimaev, who has eight wins inside the octagon, six by stoppage.
