Hockley noted the excitement around India-Pakistan meetings in an online press conference.”Pakistan and India are traditional rival teams; there is a lot of excitement for their matches,” he said.He added that Cricket Australia wants to help these nations organize bilateral and tri-series.
“We are ready to support both teams for a bilateral and a tri-series,” Hockley said of the Australian Cricket Board’s willingness to host these high-stakes matches. Cricket Australia wants to bring Pakistan and India together on the pitch, “We would be happy to play a role in the revival of Pakistan-India bilateral series,” stated Hockley.
He added that such preparations would require coordination between the Indian and Pakistani cricket bodies and administrations. “The two boards need to decide first, and we will assist in hosting,” he added, adding that formal conversations have yet to occur due to the cricket boards’ hectic schedules.
‘We want cricket to grow’
After Afghanistan’s impressive win over Australia, Hockley praised the team. He noted the obstacles Afghan cricketers faced, notably with human rights issues affecting women’s cricket.
Hockley also hoped for progress to resume bilateral cricket between the two countries. Cricket Australia works closely with the Afghanistan Cricket Board to grow the sport in Afghanistan despite present limitations.
He said that some Afghan women players in Australia are involved in local cricket clubs due to the encouragement of the Australian cricketing community. Cricket Australia is committed to promoting women’s cricket, and Hockley hopes for positive improvements that will allow Afghan women to play more.
“We absolutely want to see cricket grow and thrive all around the world for women and men,” he said. “The ongoing dialogue with the Afghanistan Cricket Board aims to encourage the development of women’s cricket in Afghanistan, despite current political and social challenges.”
