‘Military confrontation does not provide lasting solutions’
The President’s remarks follow reported strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran on Saturday morning, during a period in which negotiations were reportedly underway.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said history has shown that military confrontation does not provide lasting solutions to fundamentally political disputes.
“Military confrontation has never delivered sustainable peace, nor has it addressed the legitimate grievances that underlie conflict. Long-term peace and stability can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue and a genuine commitment to justice and coexistence,” Magwenya said.
De-escalate tensions
Ramaphosa reiterated South Africa’s call for intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and to create space for meaningful and continued negotiations.
South Africa has consistently advocated for dialogue and multilateral engagement in addressing global conflicts, emphasising the importance of peaceful resolution mechanisms under international law.
