On Tuesday, England defeated India 26-run in the third T20I of the five-match series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium thanks to Ben Duckett’s brilliant half-century and Jamie Overton’s 3/24.
England scored 171/9 in the first innings despite Varun Chakravarthy’s five wickets. The touring team started poorly as Hardik Pandya dismissed Phil Salt (five) in the second over with just seven runs.
After the early setback, Jos Buttler and Duckett in the middle put together a quickfire 76-run partnership for the second wicket in 45 deliveries. In the eighth over, Chakravarthy dismissed the England captain, then Axar Patel dismissed Duckett six balls later.
Ben Duckett scored the most for England with a 28-ball 51, including seven fours and two sixes, while Buttler scored 24 from 22. Liam Livingstone batted sensibly at number four, holding one end while wickets fell at the other.
After falling to Pandya in the 18th over, the right-handed batter scored 43 off 24 deliveries with one four and five sixes. England’s tailenders Adil Rashid and Mark Wood scored 10 runs each to give the visitors a good total to defend.
Chakravarthy was India’s best bowler, claiming five wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Pandya took two. With his outstanding bowling, Chakravarthy was named player of the match despite losing.
Despite Pandya’s efforts, the home team scored 145/9 in 20 overs to chase a difficult 172. India’s all-rounder scored 40 off 35 deliveries but was left alone till his exit on the first delivery of the penultimate over.
Others who scored for India were opener Abhishek Sharma (24) and Tilak Varma (18). Overton led England’s bowling attack with three wickets, followed by Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Wood, and Rashid.
England’s 26-run win cut India’s lead to 2-1 in the five-match series, with the fourth match in Pune on Friday.
