After PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s “surgery” removed the former cricketers from the selection panel, Afridi, 47, spoke to reporters on Wednesday. When asked about PCB’s latest move, Afridi, who is playing for Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2024 in England, told media he didn’t understand. So, he stressed that the selecting committee includes more than Riaz and Abdul Razzaq.

“I just found out that they sidelined Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz,” they remarked. “I don’t understand this kind of ‘surgery.’ Afridi added that “surgery” must be done once and for all. He stated that whoever is called forward must have time to enhance their captaincy. Afridi said Babar Azam, Pakistan’s T20 captain, has had numerous chances to prove his captaincy skills.

Azam having played in multiple international competitions, “As far as Babar is concerned, no captain has been given such open chances (to prove their captaincy),” Afridi informed reporters. He wasn’t impressed by Azam’s captaincy despite his “incredible” chances.

In regards to Riaz, 39, and Abdul Razzaq, 44, being removed, sources said: “Their influence was significant in the selection of the T20 World Cup squad and they showed more support to players who did not perform. Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and Bilal Afzal remain on the seven-man panel, which includes the captain and head coach.
