Multiple areas in the province are affected by weather-related outages and Eskom technicians are on-site doing assessments, closing breakers that tripped and repairing what’s broken to restore the electricity supply.

Customers in Butterworth, Molteno, Cofimvaba, King Williams Town, Centane, Mthatha and Steynsburg are impacted.

“We urge affected customers to be patient and to treat all electricity appliances as live during this time,” said Eskom.

To report supply issues, Eskom customers are encouraged to use the Alfred Chatbot by visiting http://alfred.eskom.co.za/chatroom/. Alternatively, faults can be reported via telephone at 08600-37566 or email at customerservices@eskom.co.za.

As previously reported, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the Eastern Cape this week.

The rough weather was caused by a surface trough over the interior of South Africa combined with upper-air perturbations.

“There is a potential of the expected storms being severe in the east, where heavy downpours, damaging winds and large amounts of small hail may be possible,” warned the weather service. Damage to infrastructure was one of the potential impacts of the storm, the weather service said.
