Former SA boxer shot dead at sports bar – reports
Former South African boxer Mark 'Striker' Strydom has reportedly been shot dead following an incident at a sports bar east of Johannesburg.
According to multiple reports that surfaced on Sunday, former South African professional heavyweight boxer Mark ‘Striker’ Strydom is said to have been shot dead in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg this weekend.
As reported by Eye Witness News, Strydom was shot shot outside Grand Slam Diner after he allegedly pulled a gun on a woman.
Other reports stated that the notorious former boxer was apparently involved in a heated argument, allegedly with his partner, at the bar when another person tried to intervene.
It’s alleged that the victim brandished a gun before an ex-police officer drew his own firearm and fatally shot the 54-year-old.
Incident under police investigation after the death of former boxer Mark ‘Striker’ Strydom
Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza said one person has since been arrested, although the victim was not officially named at this time.
“I can confirm that police in Edenvale are investigating a murder docket after a 54-year-old man was shot and killed at a sports bar yesterday [Saturday]. A suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court tomorrow [Monday].”
Shocking incident
Crime activist Yusuf Abramjee also shared the news that Strydom was indeed shot dead on Saturday on the East Rand.
Another post on Facebook read: “Rip Mark Striker Strydom, just heard the news…. May you rest in peace.”
In another tribute, a social media user also stated: “My heart is broken at the tragic death of a dear friend and true legend, my brother Mark Strydom. Your life was full of so much. Forever in our hearts, brother. God bless. Rest well now.”
Strydom, who was a former professional heavyweight boxer, often made headlines for the wrong reasons after his sports career ended, having become renowned for a number of reported incidents of an unsavoury nature.
