Chiefs have not been at their sharpest in front of goal so far this season so having a striker on trial would not come as a surprise to many.

Chiefs have struggled for goals so far this season

With just two wins from their first six games of the season, and just four goals scored, Chiefs’ struggles are clear for all to see. New signings Ashley du Preez came to the club amid much fanfare, but got injured after a promising goal scoring performance against Maritzburg United. Having spotted how his team struggled without alternatives in the centre forward position, coach Arthur Zwane dipped back into the market and signed Burundian international, Bonfis-Caleb Bimenyinama.

Bimenyinama only became available for the club this past weekend, in yet another frustrating stalemate against AmaZulu at home. Even in that game, Chiefs had the chance to get all three points, but a penalty miss from Dillon Solomons saw them walk away with just the one point. Zwane may have arguably been his team’s own worst enemy when it comes to Bimenyinama, as the targetman had reportedly already impressed when he spent three weeks in pre-season with the club. His decision to delay his signing then seemed perplexing especially as he looked to fit the description of the striker Zwane had been yearning for.

French striker on trial?

Having showed signs of promise on his debut cameo, Bimenyinama might eventually prove to be the answer to Chiefs and Zwane, but according to The Citizen, his signing alone may not be seen as enough for the Amakhosi management, with the publication claiming there is currently a French striker being assessed by the club.

“I am not sure of his name but he is Jean-Paul-something, I forget. He last played in Australia or New Zealand, He was recommended to the club and they agreed to take a closer look at him to see if he might be a good find,” added the source to the publication.

With Zwane previously eluding to the cheque book being closed at Chiefs for this window, it remains to be seen if this certain French striker may be able to change the club’s mind.
