The main South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) show took place on Saturday 3 September and was hosted by media personality Khutso Theledi, comedian Mpho Popps and Expresso star Ryle De Morny. The Craft Awards, held on Friday 2 September, were hosted by Candice Modiselle and Smash Afrika.

Mzansi Magic’s DiepCity won the Best Telenovela while kykNet’s Afrikaans soapie, Suidooster, won the Best TV Soap Award. Streaming giant Showmax walked away with 17 wins for shows like Tali’s Baby Diary, Dam and the much-loved telenovela, The Wife. The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Gomora actress Connie Chiume.
