Good news for SAA passengers despite global jet fuel uncertainty
South African Airways (SAA) says it is monitoring Middle East developments but says flights will continue operating as planned.
South African Airways (SAA) says it does not expect any immediate disruption to its jet fuel supply, despite growing tensions in the Middle East that have raised concerns about global oil markets.
The airline confirmed it is closely monitoring developments in the region, but says it currently has sufficient fuel arrangements in place to maintain its flight schedule.
Jet fuel supply currently remains stable for South Africa
South African Airways said South Africa benefits from multiple jet fuel supply channels, including local refining capacity and established fuel import infrastructure.
This diversified supply network helps provide resilience against potential disruptions in global fuel markets.
The airline also operates under fuel supply agreements with licensed providers at all airports it serves, with those suppliers keeping fuel inventories and infrastructure to support ongoing operations.
Based on current planning and assurances from suppliers, SAA said it has adequate fuel supplies to continue operating normally.
Industry prepared for uncertainty
SAA Group CEO John Lamola said airlines are used to preparing for global disruptions that can affect fuel supply and aviation logistics.
“Geopolitical developments can influence global oil prices and aviation logistics, and the airline industry is accustomed to planning for such uncertainties,” Lamola said.
“At SAA, we work proactively with fuel suppliers, airports, and industry partners to safeguard operational continuity.”
He added that the airline maintains strong risk management and supply planning systems designed to anticipate and ease potential upset.
For now, SAA says its priority is ensuring operational stability and minimising any pricing inconvenience to customers, even as global developments continue to evolve.
