The Hawks arrested a 39-year-old foreign national on Friday, 30 January 2026, after uncovering what police believe was an illegal drug laboratory in Ekurhuleni.

Members of the Johannesburg Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit led the operation, working with several other law enforcement teams.

These included crime intelligence officers, K9 units, forensic experts and local policing structures.

Tip-off exposes illegal drug operation

Police acted on information received on Wednesday, 28 January, which pointed to a suspect allegedly running a drug operation in the Cruywagen Park area.

After verifying the information, officers moved in on Friday and searched the premises.

Drugs worth over R1 million found

During the search, police discovered 8 kilogram of CAT and 2 kilogram of crystal meth. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than R1 million.

Officers seized the substances as evidence and arrested the suspect on charges of dealing in and possession of drugs.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday, 02 February 2026.
