ICC Meeting Postponed Over Dispute: WHY?

A key meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan was postponed again before it could begin after the BCCI “rejected the formula” proposed by the PCB.

The sources added that the BCCI rejected the PCB’s suggestions, leaving the deadlock unresolved. After this, PCB sources told the ICC that the meeting should only occur when a final decision is needed and that India’s position should be explained first.

The Champions Trophy is at a stalemate after BCCI refused to send its squad to Pakistan, while PCB refused to change their mind about the hybrid model for the eight-team tournament. In the newest development, a “partnership formula” is being considered to resolve the PCB-BCCI dispute.

Pakistan would also miss ICC matches in India for three years under the new formula. Dubai is scheduled to be the neutral venue for both teams under the new deal. India will host Women’s World Cup 2025, T20 World Cup 2026 with Sri Lanka, and Champions Trophy 2027.

Details revealed that the apex cricketing body encouraged the BCCI to accept the model to prevent legal action by Pakistan and resolve the matter without voting. If the suggested formula is accepted, the apex cricketing authority will notify the board members and the board meeting may not be needed.

The conference was postponed because India didn’t respond to Pakistan’s solution, sources said. December 7 is the new meeting date. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai this morning with high hopes for the vital meeting to discuss the tournament’s future in Pakistan in February-March 2025.
