India advance to WCL semis after losing to South Africa
In the last World Championship of Legends 2024 league match at Northampton’s County Ground, South Africa defeated India by 54 runs on Wednesday night. India scored 156/6 in 20 overs to finish fourth on the standings after losing to South Africa and qualifying for the semi-finals with 153.
India placed South Africa in first and they scored 210/8. Top batter Jacques Snyman scored 43-ball 73 with ten fours and three sixes. Richard Levi fired a 25-ball 60 with five fours and sixes. Ryan McLaren (20) and captain Jacques Kallis (17) made vital cameos. Dhawal Kulkarni, Vinay Kumar, Pawan Negi, and Yusuf Pathan each took a wicket while Harbhajan Singh took 4/25.
Robin Uthappa (23) led India in the chase, but Vernon Philander scored twice to put South Africa back in. Despite being 77/5, India kept losing wickets. Irfan and Yusuf Pathan’s 55-run stand gave India hope. After hitting 53 off 21 balls, Irfan was run out in the second-last over. Yusuf remained unbeaten 44-ball 54. India placed fourth and West Indies third. Four wins put Australia and Pakistan in first and second place.
