Kaizer Chiefs stand to gain R14 million, if…

Kaizer Chiefs can land a massive financial windfall if Siyabonga Ngezana makes another big move this winter. Here’s how.

Agent laughs off Azerbajaini offer for Ngezana

FIFA agent Florin Vulturar says Azerbaijani outfit Neftçi have never spent more than €1 million on a player and they aren’t about to shatter that record for FCSB defender Siyabonga Ngezana. His client was linked with a €7 million (R140 million) move.

“€7 million right? And if it was April 1st, it wasn’t a good joke. If they looked at Neftçi’s transfer history, I don’t think they ever paid more than €1 million. The news scared me. There is no problem,” he said.

Sell-on clause could pay dividends for Kaizer Chiefs

Last year, Ngezana was being watched by Ligue 1 side Lorient. They reportedly made a €5 million offer but FCSB rejected it. Ngezana, a Chiefs youth product, moved to Romania for €600k (roughly R12 million). Amakhosi could earn another massive chunk of change if he makes another lucrative move. FCSB owner Gigi Becali insisted that he won’t sell Ngezana for less than €6m. That’s roughly, R122 Million. With the rumoured R140 million on the table, Becali would be receptive. Chiefs would skim R14 million off the top.

Tasting success

FCSB, formerly known as Steaua București, are no stranger to success. However, it’s been a while since they tasted Romanian Superlig glory and they’ve finally become reacquainted with that feeling. Siyabonga Ngezana’s team were confirmed as champions on Saturday for the first time since 2015. FCSB have won 27 domestic crowns in their storied history, but a nine-year drought wasn’t in the script. Ngezana, on a personal level, tastes his first piece of league silverware. He will also feature in the esteemed and prestigious UEFA Champions League next term. That is if FCSB gets past Maccabi Tel Aviv over two legs in a crunch qualifier.

Where do you think Ngezana will go next on his journey?

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware. The club’s next friendly outing is in the Toyota Cup, staged in Bloemfontein, on 28 July. They’ll face new manager Nasreddine Nabi’s old club Young Africans from Tanzania.
