Leaked audio suggests Pongola truck driver was fleeing cops

Leaked audio believed to be made by the Pongola truck driver Sibusiso Siyaya confessing about the tragic accident has created better logic about the crash.

TRUCK DRIVER CONFESSES IN LEAKED AUDIO SENT VIA WHATSAPP

Shortly after causing the accident last Friday and fleeing the scene, Siyaya, who now faces multiple charges of culpable homicide, apparently recorded audio about what happened.

In the two-minute-long leaked audio, the man believed to be Siyaya, confesses that he was attempting to evade traffic cops who were attempting to stop him when he mowed down the bakkie carrying school children.

TRAFFIC BLOCKADE LEADS TO HIS PURSUIT

“I don’t worry brother it’s fine. We blocked the road with a couple of drivers in Pongola after we had planned this from Richards Bay. However, I was singled out, I escaped and then I knocked over the children.”

Prior to his arrest, he pleaded with his brother or friend to get the photograph of the truck removed from social media.

“The truck involved was mine brother, I beg you to get it removed.”

Among the perished, is 20 lives, 18 of which were children aged between seven and 12, an educator and the driver of the bakkies that was transporting the children from school.

The children were returning from school when the bakkie they were travelling in was mowed down by the truck.

One of the parents who may never recover from this tragedy is Nonhlanhla Ntshangase, the mother who lost all three of her children including twins in the crash.

Her home has been left empty, with her children’s room filled with air and memories that will constantly evoke pain.

KZN PREMIER MAKES PROMISES TO THE FAMILIES

In her visit to the area, Acting KZN Premier Nomagugu Simelane said the provincial government will support the families with funeral arrangements, counselling family members, and pupils in affected schools and ensure that justice is served.

Siyaya appeared in uPhongolo Magistrate Court on Monday, 19 September and was remanded in custody pending his bail application next Monday, 26 September.
