Lesufi apologises for water shortage remarks in Gauteng

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has apologised for remarks he made during a media briefing on water shortages in the province.

He said his comments about going to a hotel to bathe may have been misunderstood as suggesting that water challenges affect some people more than others.

“I regret any impression that suggested otherwise,” Lesufi said.

“The water challenges we are experiencing inconvenience everyone equally. No one is immune to the frustration and disruption caused by water shortages.”

Water shortages affect all residents

The Premier emphasised that water interruptions are an inconvenience and hardship to all residents of Gauteng, regardless of social, economic, or professional standing.

He noted that access to water is a basic human right, and any disruption affects families, communities, businesses, and institutions across the province.

Commitment to solving the crisis

Lesufi said he remains fully committed to working with all spheres of government, municipalities, and relevant stakeholders to urgently address water infrastructure challenges.

He assured residents that ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply is a top priority for the provincial government.

The Premier also thanked Gauteng residents for their patience and resilience during ongoing water disruptions, reiterating that resolving the province’s water crisis remains a key focus.
