Limpopo learner dies after swallowing a pen lid
A Grade 4 learner from Limpopo reportedly complained to his teacher about struggling to breathe after swallowing a pen lid.

The Limpopo Department of Education has dispatched psychosocial services to the family of a Grade 4 learner who died after swallowing a pen lid.
The incident happened on Monday, 14 April at Moriting Primary School in the Capricorn South education district.
GRADE 4 LEARNER DIES AFTER SWALLOWING PEN LID
According to the Limpopo Department of Education, the tragic incident occurred when a learner accidentally swallowed a pen’s lid and reported to her teacher that he was struggling to breathe.
Immediate action was reportedly taken to rush the learner to the hospital, however, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, they were unable to save the minor.
The Limpopo Department of Education has extended its sincerest condolences to the family and the school community.
MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya said their thoughts and prayers are with the learner’s family during this difficult and heartbreaking time.
“No parent must ever bury their child. To her little classmates and teachers, we encourage them to stay strong,” Lerule-Ramakhanya said.
The department dispatched the psychosocial services to the family and the school.
