The Limpopo police arrested multiple suspects and recovered narcotics with a street value of more than half a million rand on Wednesday, 31 August.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects were nabbed in Bela Bela and Westenburg, respectively.

The first arrest saw a 52-year-old man nabbed for alleged drug dealing. Bela Bela visible policing members reportedly caught him with Crystal Meth (Tik) and Cat worth an estimated R500 000 at approximately 4:00 on Wednesday.

About an hour later, the Limpopo Organised Crime Unit and Crime Intelligence pounced on two suspects – aged 32 and 48 – for allegedly selling drugs in Westenburg. “Mandrax with an estimated street value of R20 000 was confiscated,” said the police spokesperson.

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrests and praised the units for hitting drug dealers hard on a consistent basis.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Bela Bela and Polokwane Magistrate’s Court respectively on Thursday, 1 September, on drug charges. The investigation continues.

In an unrelated incident, a Tik consignment worth R236 million bound for Australia was seized by Customs Officers at OR Tambo International Airport, said the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in a statement on Sunday, 28 August.
