Live US election map: Donald Trump wins 2024 US presidential race

Track results as Harris, Trump compete in presidential race

Voting in the U.S. presidential election between Democrat Kamala Harris, the vice president, and Republican Donald Trump, the former president, ended on Nov. 5. In some U.S. elections, a winner is projected within hours; others take days or weeks to reach a result.

The map above is provided by Voice of America. VOA’s editors update the map when the Associated Press and a second source project Harris or Trump as having won a state.

The bar at the top of the map shows each candidate’s Electoral College vote totals. You can click on the years at the top of the map to see results from previous presidential elections.

In U.S. elections, the president and vice president are not elected directly in a popular vote by citizens. Instead, they are chosen through the Electoral College process, in which designated electors cast votes according to the outcome of the popular vote in each state. Each state has as many electors as it has lawmakers in the U.S. Congress. To win the presidency, a candidate must earn at least 270 electoral college votes.
