Eskom will start implementing load reductions on THURSDAY morning in several parts of the country from 05:00 until 09:00.

THE LOAD REDUCTIONS STARTED AT 05:00

Eskom said it is implementing load reduction to avoid network overloading in high-density areas.

Note that load reduction will be implemented between 05:00 and 09:00.

“While load shedding has been suspended, Eskom cautions the public that the generation system remains constrained and Stage 2 load shedding might be implemented at short notice tonight and during the evening peaks.

“During the load reduction implementation, customers are urged to switch off all their electrical appliances to avoid possible damage due to power surges when supply returns.

“Failure to do so may lead to transformer trips or failures and damages to household appliances when supply is restored.”

Free State:

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOAD SHEDDING AND LOAD REDUCTION: 

Load shedding = Eskom does not have enough capacity to generate electricity. 

Load reduction = switch off localised areas where illegal connections cause overload and damage infrastructure.

President Cyril Ramaphosa urged South Africans to invest in rooftop solar with NEW rules and a pricing structure.

RAMAPHOSA URGED SOUTH AFRICANS TO GET ROOFTOP SOLAR

President Cyril Ramaphosa said they intend to enable businesses and households to invest in rooftop solar to generate electricity.

He said South Africa has a great abundance of sun that should be used to generate electricity.

“There is significant potential for households and businesses to install rooftop solar and connect this power to the grid.

“To incentivise greater uptake of rooftop solar, Eskom will develop rules and a pricing structure – known as a feed-in tariff – for all commercial and residential installations on its network.”

Meanwhile, Eskom, said it is considering disconnecting the City of Tshwane Metro Municipality which includes the capital city, Pretoria, as one of the necessary steps to secure the outstanding payment. The City of Tshwane

According to Eskom, the City of Tshwane is in breach of the Electricity Supply Agreement which it holds with the power supplier by failing to pay the R1.6 billion which was due and payable on 17 August 2022.
