Ooft, now this looks like an expensive crash. While we fully expect this Ferrari 458 Speciale to ride again, the repair bill is likely to be eye-watering. After crashing into the back of an Audi R8, it’s hard to tell who has come off worse.

The incident brought traffic to a standstill on Saturday afternoon. It also had the same affect on bystanders, who managed to get a glimpse of the very costly and mangled metal. Debris was eventually cleared from the road, and both vehicles were taken out of harm’s way.

It’s understood that ‘speeding’ was the direct cause of this accident. Exact details haven’t been made public, but at least one motorist is believed to be at fault for this prang. The Ferrari 458, however, may prove to be a little more difficult to restore.

The Speciale is ‘high-performance version’ of the 458 Italia Coupe, first produced in 2014. This enhanced model comes with finned side sills, a taller rear spoiler, and redesigned bumpers. The engine was revised, with power increased to 597 hp, and it also featured a vented bonnet.

  • Well, this one in Sea Point now has a DENTED bonnet. That’s a good one, you have to admit…

Sea Point speeders given a warning

South Africa’s main road safety agency, Arrive Alive, has also reacted to the incident. They were keen to remind the general public that speeding is a very serious offence, and accounts for a large number of ALL fatal crashes in Mzansi.

“Don’t speed! This was the scene in front of Grand Pavilion, Sea Point. The owners of a Ferrari and Audi R8 know this now! The Arrive Alive Campaign is aware that the public needs to be made more aware of the dangers of speeding.”

“Unfortunately, many people do not view obeying speed limits as an important way to avoid crashes. However, speeding is actually regarded as a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes.” | Arrive Alive
