A fatal shooting in Mabopane, Gauteng, on the evening of Thursday, 8 September, has shocked locals. 

SAPS searching for the suspects

South African Police Service (SAPS) members are on the hunt for the suspects responsible for the brutal murder of a 48-year-old man. The man was travelling in a Toyota Hilux when he was shot and killed in a hail of bullets.

The incident occurred Block B, Mabopane. Many have described the horrific murder as a hit. An unknown number of suspects used R5 rifles against the driver. They opened fire and killed him instantly.

Videos of the incident are circulating online

Videos of the aftermath show the bullet-riddled vehicle and the deceased. The videos have been circulating on social media since the incident on Thursday evening. In one of the terrifying clips, the man can be seen seated in the driver’s seat of the bakkie – his face is completely blown out.

SABC News reports that it is unclear where the bakkie was travelling to or coming from. At present, the motive for the Mabopane shooting has not been established.

The publication spoke with members of the community who stated that the deceased was involved in tender businesses. One person described the victim as a loving and caring person, someone who was always friendly and ‘ever smiling’.

Khalid Parker: Cape Town businessman KILLED in Landsdowne

Meanwhile, it was reported that the circumstances leading up to the death of Cape Town businessman Khalid Parker are being investigated. The 40-year-old was killed by unknown suspects on Imam Haroon Street, Lansdowne at around 10:00 on the morning of Friday, 9 September.

Reports by the SAPS revealed that Parker was walking across the road when he was attacked by three unknown suspects. Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Parker sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was declared deceased at the scene.

Tigg stated that the suspects fled the scene and the motive for the attack has not been established. A case of murder has been opened. Read the full story here.
