The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple weather warnings for Monday, cautioning residents about heavy rain, strong winds and the risk of flooding across several provinces.

Forecaster Tokelo Chiloane said the severe conditions are expected to persist into Tuesday, with widespread thunderstorms forecast in parts of the country.

Warnings issued across multiple provinces

A yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for:

  • Free State
  • KwaZulu-Natal
  • Escarpment areas of Mpumalanga

In addition, a yellow level 2 warning – which includes the risk of localised flooding – has been issued for:

  • Gauteng
  • North West
  • The Highveld region of Mpumalanga

Authorities urge caution

Officials have urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, avoid flood-prone zones and keep monitoring official weather updates.

The weather service indicated that further advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
