Making history: Tom Cruise could shoot a new movie in space!

He’s jumped out of vehicles, he’s flown helicopters and now, Tom Cruise might be the first actor to shoot in space! According to the New York Post, the Hollywood star has worked with The Bourne Identity director, Doug Liman, on an exciting movie pitch that involves filming in space. It is also reported that most of the movie will be shot on earth.

TOM CRUISE’S NEXT VENTURE 

Following the success of Top Gun: Maverick, it seems Tom Cruise already has his eyes set on his next film ventures. The New York Post reports that Cruise could be the first actor to shoot a film in space. 

The 60-year-old actor’s movie pitch with Doug Liman was pushed back in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) charman, Donna Langley, confirmed that the Hollywood star would be “taking the world to space”. 

“That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom… Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting,” said Langley. 

‘TOP GUN: MAVERICK’

The Hollywood actor stunned the world after leading, Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 classic, Top Gun. In September. Variety reported that the film beat out Marvel’s Black Panther to become the fifth-highest grossing movie ever. 

Top Gun: Maverick raked approximately $1.4 billion (R25.3 billion) while Black Panther brought in approximately $1.3 billion (R23.5 billion).

TOM CRUISE’S STELLAR PAYCHECK 

Cruise is set to earn more than $100 million (R1.7 billion) from his Top Gun: Maverick salary, ticket sales and his share of streaming revenue. 

Even after the Oscars slap, Will Smith will reportedly earn $35 million (R603 million) for the upcoming thriller, Emancipation
