Mamelodi liquor outlets shut down in police operation
This past weekend's police operation started in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, where liquor outlets were closed and scores were arrested.
Police shut down ten liquor outlets in Mamelodi, Pretoria, during their weekend crime prevention operation.
CRIMINALS TARGETED IN TSHWANE
Police conducted their weekly Operation O Kae Molao the past weekend. This persistent operation is to fight against crime and ensure the community feels safe through increased policy visibility.
The operation, which took place simultaneously every weekend throughout the province, was led this time in Tshwane.
The deputy provincial management advisory, who acts as the Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner, Major Girly Mbele took the lead this time. She led the operation in Mamelodi East in the Tshwane District, said police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello.
“Ten liquor outlets were closed down for contravening the Liquor Act.”

About 480 suspects were also arrested while several vehicles with tampered engine numbers were impounded. Unlicenced firearms were also seized in the area, Sello said.

POLICE ARREST 1500 SUSPECTS THROUGHOUT GAUTENG
But the operation yielded scores of arrests, with 1 500 suspects being arrested throughout the province in the same weekend.
In the Ekurhuleni District, more than 460 suspects were arrested. They allegedly committed crimes including possession of stolen property, possession and dealing in drugs, murder and rape. Some were charged with possession of unlicenced firearm, among other charges, said Sello.
“Meanwhile, the West Rand District arrested more than 170 suspects, which included wanted suspects who were arrested during the operation of tracing of wanted suspects by the detectives,” said Sello.
450 people were arrested in the Johannesburg District. They were charged with different crimes, including undocumented persons.
But some had a chance to go back home. They were released after paying admission of guilt fines and others are expected to appear before different Magistrate’s Courts in the Gauteng Province.
“The community is urged to continue assisting the police in fighting crime by reporting any criminal activities,” Sello said.
