According to Ramkisson-Kara, Ngubane killed Dumisani Moyo who was a chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League (ANYL) and branch task team convener in Ward 7 – he was hired by party rivals to murder Moyo.

He also killed his friend Senzokuhle Mthethwa after an argument.

The court case

IOL reports that in aggravation of sentence, statements from Moyo and Mthethwa’s family members were read. The families stated that the deaths of their loved ones were senseless and that recovering from the loss of those close to them was hard.

For the two murders, Ngubane was sentenced to double life. He was sentenced to 15 years for each robbery he committed, three years for housebreaking, five years for kidnapping, 15 years for the unlawful possession of a firearm, four years for the unlawful possession of ammunition and 10 years for conspiracy to commit murder.

“The court ordered that counts 3, 4 and 5 run concurrently and that counts 8 and 9 run concurrently, thus resulting in the sentence of two life terms and 64 years imprisonment,” Ramkisson-Kara said.
