RIP: Police Minister General Bheki Cele will be paying homage to the fallen on-duty police officer attached to Boksburg North
Police Minister Bheki Cele is set to pay homage to the fallen police officers that were stationed in the East Rand on Wednesday, 19 October.
MINISTER BHEKI CELE TO HONOUR THE FALLEN OFFICERS
“As the South African Police Service (SAPS) calls for greater cooperation from communities to end police killings, Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, pay homage to two on-duty SAPS members who were brutally attacked and killed on Thursday, 13 October 2022 in Boksburg; East of Johannesburg,” said Lirandzu Themba, the Police Ministry Spokesperson.

WHO WERE THE DECEASED POLICE OFFICIALS FROM BOKSBURG
According to Themba, 29-year-old Constable Khotso Malahlela and 45-year-old Sergeant Vusimuzi Batsha both attached to the Boksburg North Police Station, were responding to a complaint of an unnatural death in the area when they were accosted by three males. At the time of the attack, the pair were waiting for a mortuary van to arrive on the scene, when they were disarmed and fatally wounded.
“Police investigations continue to apprehend the three suspects who also made off with both the officers’ service pistols and bulletproof vests.”

VENUE AND TIME FOR THE EVENT DETAILED
Minister Cele will be joined by the SAPS management in remembering the fallen officers. These proceedings will take place at Freeway Bible Church Boksburg from 10 am.
Meanwhile, early this month Minister Cele descended on problematic areas in KwaZulu-Natal where he called for an Imbizo to deal with the scourge of crime.
This engagement meeting led to the Police Ministry and the eThekwini Municipality vowing to team up to decisively deal with crime and causative factors of crime in some of the most violent areas in the municipality.
