Mogale City: Grade 6 learner dies after falling under moving bus

Tragedy has once again struck the education fraternity in Gauteng as a Grade 6 learner from Mphe-Thuto Primary School in Ga-Mohale, Mogale City has died after allegedly falling under a moving scholar transport bus.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education, the incident occurred on Thursday, 29 September 2022.

“Information at our disposal states that the incident occurred after school Thursday afternoon. Reports allege that learners were fighting inside a scholar transport bus when the Grade 6 boy learner allegedly fell out of the bus and was unfortunately ran over by it,” said spokesperson Steve Mabona in a statement.

BUS INCIDENT INVOLVING LEARNER UNDER INVESTIGATION

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has expressed condolences to the family and friends of the pupil, in the wake of the horrific bus incident.

Lesufi’s office says department officials have visited the learner’s home to pay their respects and our Psycho Social Team will be dispatched to the school on Friday, 30 September 2022, to provide necessary support. The circumstances surrounding the incident are also being investigated.

“We are utterly devastated by this tragic incident and we wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and school community at large”, said Lesufi.

Earlier this month, the Free State Department of Education confirmed that a Grade 1 learner has died after his head got stuck in the window frame of a mobile toilet in Bloemfontein.

According to spokesperson Howard Ndaba, the incident occurred on Friday, 16 September 2022, at Caleb Motshabi Primary School.

“It is alleged that today , 16 September 2022 during break time, around 11:10, 4 learners were playing in the mobile toilets. One closed the door and it could not open. As deceased learner was trying to use the framed window at the toilet his body managed to get out but the head got stucked in the window frame,” he said.
