On Wednesday, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan dethroned his captain, who had held the top spot in the T20I standings for over a thousand days. Rizwan moved 19 places to 815 in the newest ICC rankings after a great performance in the current Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Rizwan is the Asia Cup’s leading run-scorer with 192 runs, including two fifty-plus scores. Pakistan’s opening batsman scored fifty against Hong Kong and India and reached 43 against India in the tournament’s first game.

Babar, presently ranked second behind Rizwan, was previously rated first for 1,155 days (as of September 7), but his long reign ended following a spate of lacklustre performances in the Asia Cup. Aiden Markram of South Africa has moved to the third place with 775 points. While Suryakumar Yadav of India has dropped to fourth. Yadav had a better chance of being the top batter than Rizwan, but he failed to deliver. Rizwan must continue to perform well for Pakistan in their next matches to keep his starting spot.
