Orlando Pirates legend hails ‘exciting to watch’ Zakhele Lepasa

Orlando Pirates legend Gerald Modabi says Zakhele Lepasa has the potential to do better than former Buccaneers striker Lesley Manyathela.

The 25-year-old forward played his part in both goals which helped the Sea Robbers sink TS Galaxy 2-0 in their DStv Premiership match last Saturday at the Orlando Stadium.

Lepasa first forced the opposition’s Given Msimango to tap the ball into his own net before scoring the second goal himself prior to the half-time break.

MODABI PRAISES LEPASA

“Pirates need Lepasa to remain fit. Lepasa is a very good football player and is exciting to watch and he just needs to remain fit because he is injury prone,” Modabi said as per Soccer Laduma.

“I think some of his injuries could be because he overworks himself in his own training which is something that could be a result of desperation.

“But I can put my head on the block and say if the boy can stay injury-free for a good two seasons, he will be far much better than Lesley Manyathela.

“Maybe one other thing that needs to be looked at is the players around him and ask are they good enough with the supply for him to make hitting the back of the net a habit because that is what South African football has been missing until recently with Peter Shalulile. Lepasa could be the answer that Pirates has been looking for, for a very long time.”

PIRATES SHIFT FOCUS TO SUNDOWNS

In other news, the Soweto giants next shift their focus to MTN8 semi-final action where they are set to take on defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ezimnyama Ngenkani coach Jose Riveiro sees an opportunity to amend what they haven’t been getting right.

“It’s a good time to do a deep analysis about what we were doing during these past six weeks, make the conclusions and make sure we know where we are with our approach because this is a long-term project that we have started,” he said as per TimesLIVE.

“There’s a lot of things to analyse and try to implement during these weeks.

“As a coach, I would like to have more time to train and for a team like us, we really trust in the training process and what we do during the week.

“We have a chance to enjoy these full weeks before we face our next opponent. [The break] is something very positive for us.

“We will have time for everything and also a short, well-deserved rest for the boys, but we are going to use the time properly because we are still hungry and We are going to play the next game being in a very good condition.”
