Orlando Pirates set to miss out on Bafana Bafana star target!
Orlando Pirates are trying to wrap up a few deals in the January transfer window but could end up losing out on a Bafana Bafana international.
Orlando Pirates are believed to be aiming at having a busy January transfer window, with some targets lined up!
Pirates have already won a trophy this season and find themselves second in the Betway Premiership.
Pirates look to be busy in January
But that hasn’t stopped them from looking to improve their playing squad going into the current window. Three deals were believed to be imminent. These involving Polokwane City duo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi. The third is expected to be midfielder Siphelele Luthuli. The former Chippa United midfielder has been training with the Pirates side since late 2024 and is expected to sign.
Luthuli is not the only midfielder with Chippa links that seems to be of interest to Pirates. Recently, this publication reported that the Buccaneers are interested in signing Bafana Bafana international Sinoxolo Kwayiba. But now according to Soccer-Laduma, that move is unlikely to happen.
“The interest from Orlando Pirates is still there and the club doesn’t want to lose him (Kwayiba) for free if he doesn’t sign a new contract this transfer window period because his current contract ends in June 2025. He signed an initial two-year contract when he joined from Pretoria Callies in 2023. And now the team is offering him another two year improved deal until June 2027. So though it’s not a done deal yet he would rather be safe than sorry knowing that Chippa want to keep him than rushing for a deal which may not happen. For now it’s an offer of two years and let’s wait and see,” said the source.
Set to miss out on Kwayiba?
The source then confirmed that it is a win-win for Chippa to keep Kwayiba on a new deal. This would help them get more money from Pirates should they be interested in buying him.
“It works both ways for Chippa United. If he (Kwayiba) goes to Pirates they will benefit from the sale as he will be contracted to them. They will cash in on him because he will be contracted to them. But at the same time even if he doesn’t go then they will make sure that he is still their player for the next two years and help the team going forward. So the two years offer tabled for him is a good deal for both the club and the player as things stand right now,” said the source.
