The BCCI is purportedly using clandestine means to disrupt the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Sources say the BCCI is offering hefty financial incentives to participating nations to protest the tournament’s hosting arrangements. The ICC faces pressure with two days till the November 19 schedule announcement deadline.
Failure to approve the schedule on time might breach commercial broadcaster agreements, raising the stakes for the ICC and BCCI. While publicly rejecting matches in Pakistan because to security concerns, the BCCI is discreetly negotiating a hybrid arrangement or a move to India.
The BCCI allegedly offers boards a percentage of its ICC income and millions of dollars in profits and promises of extra bilateral matches with India. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejects the hybrid approach and insists all matches be played in Pakistan.
The PCB has ruled out moving the tournament abroad. BCCI discrepancy has been noted by experts. Under Rameez Raja’s PCB chairmanship, India supported Pakistan’s 2021 Champions Trophy bid without complaint till recently. The abrupt opposition has sparked questions about what motivated these moves.
To fix the situation, ICC officials are allegedly in constant contact with all member boards, including the BCCI. The ICC said the final schedule would be decided by all teams and board members, not just the Indian Cricket Board.
