PSL NEWS: October player and manager of the month awards announced

October’s PSL player and manager of the month have been announced.

Five wins in four – their only loss of the season came at the hands of Magesi in the Telkom Knockout Cup – makes Orlando Pirates Jose Riveiro the Manager of the Month.

The Sea Robbers, who have won seven successive league games for the first time in its history, scored eleven goals and conceded only four; they sit top of the table, three points ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ka Bo Yellow’s Lucas Ribeiro Costa was awarded PSL’s Player of the Month with four goals and two assists in five games.

Could Riveiro leave the Orlando Pirates?

There’s plenty of speculation surrounding Riveiro’s PSL future, who is apparently homesick, having been separated from his family, who live in Spain, since joining the club in 2022.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” an anonymous source explained.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand.”

The source suggests that Riveiro is hoping to bow out in style, ending Orlando Pirates 13-year PSL drought, making it six major trophies during his tenure.

“Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind. He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”
