‘PUBLIC VIOLENCE’: Cape Town roads to avoid on Friday morning

The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services said it was aware of incidents of public violence in Nyanga, Philippi and Samora Machel on Friday morning, 2 September. The roads have been closed in some areas.

CAPE TOWN ROADS AFFECTED

Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson, Kevin Jacobs, said traffic officers have effected road closures at Klipfontein and Borcherds Quarry; Duinefontein and Govan Mbeki; and Govan Mbeki and New Eisleben Roads.

“The R300 northbound before the N2 is affected by incidents of public violence. Motorists are advised to seek alternatives,” he said at 7:01.

Public violence has also been reported at the intersections of Sheffield and Eisleben and in the Samora Machel area, said Jacobs. The disruption is reportedly related to a taxi protest.

The Metro police, Law Enforcement and South African Police Service (SAPS) are assisting the Cape Town Traffic Services. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and seek alternative routes.

The following roads are closed, as of 7:34

Govan Mbeki Eastbound is closed at Duinefontein.

Govan Mbeki Westbound closed at New Eisleben.

R300 Southbound ramp onto the N2 inbound closed.

R300 Northbound ramp onto the N2 incoming closed.

The Borcherds Quarry entrance into Nyanga has been closed.

This is a developing story.
