Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

1.Yellow Level 2 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms expected over the interior of Namakwa in the Northern Cape and Central Karoo in the Western Cape from the afternoon into the evening, which may result in large hail, strong damaging winds and heavy downpours.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

1.Extremely high fire danger conditions expected over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape as well as the eastern parts of the North-West Province.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the southwest.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-west.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly and hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and the southern parts.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog patches in east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and southern parts.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy in the west at first with showers in places over the central and southern parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-western interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, becoming strong at times.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except along the south coast east of Witsand.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly, becoming light to moderate westerly to south-westerly along the south-west coast from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half –Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated along the coast west of Gqeberha.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly.

The Eastern half -Cloudy and cool with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

The Eastern half -The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning fog over the western interior, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in the south, otherwise isolated, except in the north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to south-easterly, becoming north-easterly from the south by late morning, spreading to Richards Bay by the evening while freshening in the south.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
