Folz was surprisingly named the club’s assistant for Sunday’s league encounter at home against Swallows FC before reports of him resigning surfaced.

The 33-year-old’s place was taken by Raymond Mdaka, who had been part of Folz’s technical team since his appointment.

Now, according to Folz, the reason he tendered his resignation was that the Gallants management wanted to force him to play certain players for the Swallows game.

Folz said he was given an ultimatum on the eve of the match to either change the starting line-up for the Swallows game or face the consequences.

And he, obviously, didn’t agree to that, and opted to walk away from Gallants as this wasn’t what the two parties had agreed on when he signed his contract.

Romain Folz has accused the Marumo Gallants management of interference.

“I will tell you exactly what happened. What happened is that last night the management of the club tried to force me to change my line-up to have multiple changes on everything. So, basically, they tried to change the line-up and I was told there would be consequences if I didn’t want that to happen. I was told that the assistant coach would be in charge if I didn’t want to comply and I said okay because that is not what my contract says,” Folz told Soccer Laduma.

“I was forced to put in players that were suggested by the management, and I refused, and I was told that the assistant would be in charge. That is not what my contract states. So, what I was told was not respecting my contract, simple as that. I was expected to comply with other people picking the team and nowhere in my contract does it say that something like that should happen,” the coach added.
