Royal AM are through to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 2-0 win over Mbabane Highlanders at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.

Veteran midfielder Elias Pelembe opened the scoring just before the half-time break before Ruzaigh Gamildien doubled Royal AM’s lead in the second half.

As a result, Shauwn Mkhize’s charges advanced to the second round with a 2-0 aggregate win, and they will now wait to see who they will face next.

This was the return leg after the two sides – Royal AM and Highlanders – played to a 0-0 draw in Eswatini last weekend.

The result would be a welcome relief for Royal AM who have been in the news since the beginning of the week due to Dan Malesela’s reported resignation.

Malesela wasn’t on the bench and so was Khabo Zondo as they don’t have the required coaching qualifications as per the new CAF rules.

In their absence, Abram Nteo again led the technical team, and he got the desired result which will undoubtedly boost Royal AM’s confidence in the competition.

WILL DAN MALESELA STAY AT ROYAL AM?

Earlier this week, local reports claimed that Malesela had tendered his resignation at Royal AM after being unhappy with a number of issues within the club.

He was further reported to be on his way to Marumo Gallants; the club he coached last season before that ugly separation at the end of the term.

Gallants are currently without a permanent coach following the resignation of 32-year-old Romain Folz almost two weeks ago.
